May 6, 2018: Holding On

Today Andy and I saw ‘A Quiet Place’. It was a pretty good film, very chilling to see how the family starring in the movie create ways to stay silent to keep away from the creatures stalking them. It was a necessary distraction from the distressing news I’m handing currently. My grandfather is getting treated for a serious respiratory condition, and one of my close friends is enduring many medical treatments for her cancer. There is so much I want to do for them, yet I feel so powerless. Life is very fleeting, and it’s vitally important to cherish every friendship and family bond you have. It could all change in an instant.

April 29, 2018: Weekend Thoughts

Some thoughts as I’m winding down, getting ready for Monday:

  • Doylestown, PA was fun to visit. There’s a wonderful bookshop in the main part of town, and we visited on Independent Bookstore Day. I love the fact that they had the Childrens’ books I’ve been searching for. I’ll definitely be returning.
  • Today me and Andy celebrated his nephew’s 2nd birthday. It was a lovely gathering, with just the immediate family and godparents. Toward the end Andy’s nephew grew restless, but that age always brings about a very emotional period. He went right to sleep the moment he was placed in his car seat!
  • Bridgewater Commons Mall was the spot for me to visit today. I picked some items for my hair that I really needed.
  • Goats are so adorable. Andy and I passed by some goat farms on the way home from Bridgewater. Next to sheep, they are so cute to observe. We also saw a quail during our drive. Hunterdon/Somerset counties are quite the rural areas.

April 22, 2018: Birthday Celebrations Continue

Waking up today to a beautiful Spring morning. Right now I’m relaxing by the window, enjoying the birds and peace before starting my day. Andy’s birthday was very memorable, and I’m glad that we met up with friends at his birthday celebration last night. We don’t see them very often, so every time we gather it’s truly special.

Although it’s still his birthday weekend, this afternoon we’re going to celebrate his sister’s 50th birthday. Her very special day was back in February, yet the timing of rough weather every weekend and other unexpected circumstances led us to celebrate this weekend. I’m glad that she’s finally going to have her celebration. Beginning a new decade in life is a very memorable moment, and her road to 50 was lined by many difficult events in her life, that she has triumphantly overcame.

It will get a bit hectic later in the day (as family gatherings often are), but I will enjoy the moment. Events like these go by very quickly, but there will certainly be many lovely memories made.

April 15, 2018: Low Glucose Episode

Today has been a day with hectic blood sugar lows. The morning was fine, no extreme changes in my levels. However, around noon time, the low glucose levels began, and I could not seem to bring them back to normal. I thought I gave myself the right amount of insulin at lunchtime, and had the right amount of carbs to accompany the dose. About an hour later though, while running errands, I found myself standing in the middle of an s in Wal Mart feeling absolutely exhausted. Andy came to check in on me and handed me a bottle of orange flavored glucose drink from the pharmacy section (don’t worry, we paid for it afterwards!) and we sat at one of the benches for 10 minutes until I felt myself again.

Thank goodness Andy was there with me, and he knew what to do at that moment. Some days I have a good handle of how my blood glucose will be during the day, but every now and then a low will come up and surprise me. It’s been a while since I’ve had such a low take place. Hopefully it won’t happen again in the near future.

April 8, 2018: Weekend Thoughts

Some thoughts before I ready myself for the week:

  • Andy and I spent some time with good friends last night: We had dinner with a good friend in Jersey City, as part of her birthday weekend. Due to our conflicting schedules, we rarely spend time together these days, so it was fun to spend a couple hours with her. Things are beginning to look up for her: she found a good, stable job with benefits, and she gets to travel around to different locations once her training is complete. I’m very proud of her.
  • We also spent time with another good friend from college. We caught up on what’s been happening with our lives, and laughing at the music being played in the area. Most of the time they have great music, yet the selection varies one weekend a month. It was enjoyable hanging out with our friend nonetheless.
  • During my down time this weekend, I’m doing my best to rest my left wrist. I’ve been icing my wrist/hand every chance I get. My new orthopedic appointment is on Wednesday, and I’m hopeful that this new doctor listens to my concerns, while covering with me every option possible to keep my wrists healthy.

March 25, 2018: Lifelines

Today I’m heading down to Wildwood with Andy for the afternoon. Mack’s Pizza opens for the season this weekend, and Andy loves making it down there for the opening every year. Since Wildwood holds special meaning for me since we began our relationship, I enjoy every moment with him during our South Jersey trips.

In recent months, I do my best to enjoy every moment in life. This life we live in is short, so I’m trying to make the most of it. I recently made contact with a very good friend from years past, and both of us want to continue getting together. As long as our work schedules don’t complicate things…something that I handle daily!
