Blogmas Day 22: Hanukkah Books for Children

Today marks the first night of Hanukkah! This special holiday is known as the festival of lights, in which families of Jewish faith celebrate this occasion for eight nights. A menorah is used to symbolize Hanukkah, and families light a candle for each night of this special holiday.

Here are some special stories centered around Hanukkah to read for children. I discovered all of these selections through Goodreads:

Latke, the Lucky Dog by Ellen Fischer

Meet the Latkes by Alan Silberberg

Sammy Spider’s First Hanukkah by Sylvia A. Rouss

Shmelf the Hanukkah Elf by Greg Wolfe

The Trees of the Dancing Goats by Patricia Polacco

Blogmas Day 22: 4th Sunday of Advent

Today marks the 4th Sunday in Advent! During this time we learn about the significance of Mary’s role in the story of Christ’s birth. Upon learning that she was chosen to carry Jesus, she was filled with worry. but the Angel guided her in taking comfort in knowing that she was selected to carry the most precious gift in all of humanity.

As we draw closer to the celebration of Christ’s birth, we remember to carry on with our lives in humility. Christmas is a time to be thankful for family and loved ones, while moving forth in celebration.
