Blogmas Day 14: Winter Books for Children

Winter begins in a matter of days, yet snow has already fallen in my area in central New Jersey. Students at my job have already begun asking about Winter, since naturally, snow is tied to the Winter season…followed by the excitement of the holidays!

Here are some picture books/stories that have the Winter season as a focal point!

The Mitten by Jan Brett

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats

Owl Moon by Jane Yolen

Dinos in the Snow by Karma Wilson

Snowballs by Lois Ehlert

Snow by Uri Shulevitz

This is just a small list of Winter stories! Feel free to share your favorite Winter themed picture books and/or stories in the comments!

March 2, 2019: Strength through Stress

I was all ready to post my TBR for March last night, but life had other plans for me. The past couple days brought a surprising challenge to handle at work, and it left me feeling sad and frustrated. All I can say is that due to an outside obligation, I have a 4 day work week for the next few months. While of my co-workers are empathetic of my situation, my boss chose to treat it as me not caring about the staff…that the entire work schedule needs to get shifted around once a week because of an obligation I never chose to take part of.

Her reaction left me feeling overwhelmed, sad for the rest of the day, lasting into the evening. My work situation is usually stressful, yet tolerable. I’ve been able to complete my tasks, and be present day after day. However, yesterday revealed to me how insignificant my drive and dedication was to the company.

My fiance has been very helpful in giving me strength during such hectic times. After the work, he was very patient while listening to me vent during the evening. He was great in guiding me towards possible new job opportunities as well. I can refocus and channel my frustration toward bettering my situation.

I look foward to getting back into reading this weekend (it’s only been 2 days since I last read, but it’s been too long already). I can’t lose sight of what’s truly important: my loved ones, and my interests in life.

Blogmas Day 4: Sweater Weather Tag

Today I’m taking part of the Sweater Weather Tag! I wasn’t tagged by anyone to do this, I came across this idea through Louise Rose’s page.

1. Favourite candle scent?
I enjoy White Barn candle scents. Anything with Peppermint or Gingerbread scents I really love.

2. Coffee, tea, or hot chocolate?
Tough question! I’m a steadfast coffee drinker, yet I will enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate on cold winter nights.

3. What’s the best fall memory you have?
A certain change takes place when the days grow shorter and the autumn breeze increases. It signifies the beginning of Autumn, and holiday celebrations.

4. Which make up trend do you prefer: dark lips or winged eye liner?
Dark lips. I’m not that crazy about winged eye liner!

5. Best fragrance for fall?
I appreciate scents that I purchase at Victoria’s Secret. The Cherry Blossom scents are very special.

6. Favourite Thanksgiving food?
Potato salad, and pumpkin pie.

7. What is autumn weather like where you live?
Usually it cools down considerably by December. The first half of Fall remains breezy and tolerable.

8. Most worn sweater?
I have a gray cardigan sweater that I wear frequently. It’s very comfortable and light for work.

9. Must-have nail polish this fall?
I wear lots of purple nail polish, yet I’ve been leaning more toward red now that winter is approaching.

10. Football games or jumping in leaf piles?
Jumping in leaf piles!

11. Skinny jeans or leggings?
When I wear dresses during the cold months, I wear leggings with them.

12. Combat boots or uggs?
Combat boots! I wouldn’t dare wear uggs. Just not my thing.

13. Is pumpkin spice worth the hype?
I always find pumpkin spice very flavorful, especially during Fall. Now that Winter is approaching, I’m purchasing Gingerbread drinks.

14. Favourite fall TV show?
The Walking Dead. Until recently. Soo much has changed with that show.

15. What song really gets you into the fall spirit?
I’m answering this with a favorite Winter song, since Christmas is approaching. Anything from the ‘Charlie Brown Christmas’ CD!

It was fun answering these questions! Feel free to answer with your own contributions!

November 29, 2018: Thursday Thoughts

The days are getting colder…not that much to be inside all the time, but a chill is definitely in the air. I’m taking advantage of all the seasonable days I have. Winter will be here before we know it.

I got in contact with my cousin yesterday, to see if we can get together to find shoes for my wedding. It’s so impossible to get in touch with her for anything, but she and her daughter will be in the wedding, so I would like for her to be involved in some way. I will see what transpires.

November 16, 2018: Shades of Winter

Yesterday New Jersey had the first snowfall of the winter season. The kicker is that we haven’t entered winter yet (we don’t experience Winter for another month). Unlike other storms when workers are given ample time to leave to stay safe, that didn’t happen yesterday. The nightmare commutes and horror stories were endless. I don’t think we’ve ever had a situation when everyone took hours to head home.

I can only hope that storm planning will be more efficient in the next storm. They are only getting worse, and we can’t get stuck in this type of scenario again.
